From the very beginning of his existence, Jaywatcher has been cursed with a small and petite body. He has always been very relieved and thankful that he just barely managed to escape being named 'Littlewatcher' or 'Smallwatcher.' They would have been terrible combinations anyways, but being called 'little' or 'small' would definitely have been embarrassing for him. It's true he is small, but that didn't mean he wanted to be named such! He quite honestly preferred 'Jay' to anything his mother would have come up with. Thank Starclan for fathers! He would have been scarred for life if his father had not interfered in his mother's naming process.
[break][break]
He wasn't sure he was appropriately named 'Jay' though. His fur didn't like it matched that of a jay's. In fact, he was sure it didn't, what with its dreary gray, you know? He wasn't very 'blue', and it did not take a genius to figure that out. If he were blue, his parents definitely would have been like 'to hell with it, our son is blue so we're gonna call him 'Bluekit,' even if that usually is a name for she-cats.' 'Bluewatcher' certainly doesn't sound feminine. In fact, it's probably the most masculine name possible. Not. It was probably a good thing he wasn't blue. He surely wanted to have a feminine name when he was born male.
[break][break]
It makes so much sense to give him a suffix that brought all the attention to his eyes when they're the dullest color of green one can find. His leafy green eyes are the most lifeless eyes one would ever find, so it makes so much sense. Hawkclan's leader was stupid to have given him the warrior name 'Jaywatcher.' Everyone expects his eye color to be blue because he is Jaywatcher. Not Fernwatcher, Jaywatcher. Seriously leader? Jaywatcher? Who even came up with the brilliant suffix, 'watcher.' It doesn't even fit well with any cookie cutter (I'm well aware that cats wouldn't know this term, but let's just say Jaywatcher is a very special cat. Ah, hah, hah, hah, hah...) prefix that parents gave to their kits! Honestly! The world was so dumb and stupid. Why did it even exist? To kill him with its idiocy? It definitely seems like it!
[break][break]
Thanks to his introverted nature, he is rarely noticed among his fellow clanmates. It's not his fault he prefers to stick in the background. He just... doesn't like dealing with others. To be honest, communicating with others never fails to drain him completely. He freely admits that he just can't socialize with others well. He has this uncanny ability to make friendly conversations awkward at most. Ironically, Jaywatcher is an ideal candidate if a need for an eloquent speech arises.
[break][break]
He isn't a follower either. He avoids crowds completely and prefers to slink in the shadows, going his own way. Somehow, this doesn't sound like a very Hawkclanish trait, and while he is aware of this, he could honestly care less. He likes to go his own way, rules be damned, and what was anyone going to do about it besides whine and complain? It's not as he is required to be exactly like his clanmates. That would be just ridiculous if such a requirement stood. To be exactly like everyone else? Impossible. He was too different from everyone else to even think about acting like they.
[break][break]
Jaywatcher is well known for his gentle and reasonable nature. They say he has a never ending supply of patience. In reality, this simply is not true. He is very tolerant and rarely violent, but little signs can prove his irritation and his annoyance. It would be incorrect to say that he 's hard to annoy. It would be correct to say he has great control over his impulses to react to such emotions. He gets irritated all too quickly but having a naturally calm disposition, he does not show his anger in big explosions. Rather, he is quiet about it. It's not that he hides his irritation, it's just that it usually passes unnoticed by others. But for those who are actively searching for, they will discover it ridiculously easy to spot.
[break][break]
Jaywatcher has his own, unique brand of snarkiness. Easily hidden underneath fake politeness, his snarky side never fails to make him smile. It comments on everything and has absolutely no filter. The funniest part, most cats don't notice it. Jaywatcher often has good laughs over both facts. This side generally presents itself in the form of sarcasm when talking to others. But because Jaywatcher rarely puts the effort in stressing it, it is rarely perceived as sarcasm. Generally, it is met with confused stares or whoever is too caught up with themselves to notice him having even said anything.
[break][break]
He has been noted to be wise beyond his years. Through forms of snarkiness, he has a tendency to present great wisdom, if anyone ever noticed, that is. He has a habit of eavesdropping and then bitching about whoever under his breath. It's not like anyone cares. Nobody even notices him talking about them. So what was a big deal? What, was it the whole 'be good even when nobody was watching' thing? Unfortunately, he could care less about being a good little kitty. He enjoyed listening to his clan mates wonder what the hell happened last night and why the hell is everyone's fur dyed yellow?! He also enjoys stalking others, but moving on...
[break][break]
[break][break]
His mother had been a very strange and somewhat loony cat. When she was pregnant with him, she spent most of her time creating ridiculous names for her futures kits. She also liked to imagine the looks of her future children. She imagined them to be a multitude of colors and a host of crazy shapes and patterns. Needless to say, she was disappointed to find out her only kit was only a gray fluffball. Even so, his mother wanted to name him the most ridiculous names ever, like Dungkit (this was during her depression). It was only the quick interjection from his father that he was named 'Jaykit.'
[break][break]
The very notion of him having an average childhood is an absolutely ludicrous idea. Jaywatcher. A regular kithood. The very idea made him laugh with disbelief. Considering how crazy and the not normal family he had, the likelihood his kithood would have turned out normal was none. It wasn't like he was unhappy with it. Yes, he was introduced into the world by lunatics, and yes, said lunatics basically turned his world upside down from the very beginning, but Jaywatcher did not regret a moment of his kithood. No, not one.
[break][break]
He kithood, no matter how absurd it had been, had been a wonderful thing. His apprenticeship? Yeah, no. It was a whole other story. He suffered the hatred of his peers, the disapproval of his mentor, and his parents were complete doofuses when it came to comforting others. It all centered around one tiny detail. One tiny detail! He was ridiculed and others threw cruel names at him for one tiny detail. What was that tiny detail? Well, he wasn't attracted to she-cats per say... He actually leaned more towards toms. What was so bad about that? Honestly, cats, get caught up with the century!
[break][break]
So... his apprenticeship was pretty eventful. But considering he managed to become a warrior far earlier than the rest of the apprentices (take that!), cats soon laid off on the name calling. So as long as Jaywatcher never brought up his sexuality or displayed it, they were perfectly fine with him - or at least, the more mature, senior warriors. The younger ones weren't too bad and he could stand them, but only because he could get back at them by pranking them.
[break][break]
All and all, life hasn't treated him cruelly since his days as an apprentice. Will that change? Probably. Soon in the future? Considering nothing eventful has yet to happen to him of all cats, yes. Something eventful is bound to happen to completely flip his world and make it a disaster. Will he bitch about it when it happens? Oh yes.
